Friends and Family of Santa Marta,
Our hopes for an uneventful start of the year were unfortunately stifled by the uncovering of 15 new positive cases of COVID-19 among healthcare residents during our ongoing weekly testing. This brings the total number of resident cases to 22 – five in assisted living and 17 in skilled nursing. There are no positive cases among residents in independent living and memory support.
Given this recent rise in cases, we are increasing our testing interval for residents in healthcare to twice weekly. One rapid test and one lab test will be administered to each individual. As usual, we’re closely monitoring all residents for any signs or symptoms of the virus. Salon services have also been suspended until further notice.
As we shared last week, representatives from the Kansas Department for Aging & Disability Services visited our community in late December for an infection control survey. No deficiencies within our infection control protocols and procedures were found.
Our weekly two rounds of testing for all healthcare team members identified 13 new positive cases this week. Overall, there are now 23 positive cases among Santa Marta employees, all of whom are recovering at home.
We extend our well wishes to the impacted residents and team members and hope for their speedy recovery.
While indoor visitations with safety precautions continue in independent living, outdoor visitation for residents in our health center remains temporarily suspended. We encourage window visits, video calls and using social media to safely stay connected with your loved ones.
Presently, we are still awaiting confirmation regarding when residents and team members will receive immunizations against COVID-19. We have been in contact with CVS, which will be administering the vaccine, to determine the timeline. We will update you as soon as vaccination dates are scheduled.
Despite this week’s setback, we remain determined to overcome this virus. Your ongoing support, prayers and words of encouragement continue to be a source of comfort for us all.
Thank you and God bless,
