COVID-19 UPDATE | MARCH 26, 2021

Friends and Family of Santa Marta,

Today, we want to take a moment to provide an update on maintaining the safety and health of our residents and team members. Earlier this week, we learned that a staff member (who is not resident-facing) tested positive for COVID-19. This individual is doing fine and recovering at home in isolation. We send our thoughts and prayers for a healthy recovery.

Today, March 26, we conducted a full round of COVID-19 testing of all residents and we hope to have the results very soon. We have scheduled testing of all team members on Monday and will report those results next week.

Out of precaution, we are temporarily transitioning visitations for Healthcare residents to outdoors. For Independent Living (IL), indoor visitations and some small group activities continue as usual, as well as resident apartment visits as long as the resident is fully vaccinated. For a complete list of visitation protocols and/or to schedule a visit, please contact Admissions Director Riley Mason at 913-323-7175 between 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Monday to Friday.

As we prepare for Easter week festivities and celebration, we are excited to announce our chapel now has full seating availability. It is only open to IL residents and is not accessible to outside visitors at this time. And today, we are so pleased to announce we are holding our first Resident Reception in more than a year! Both of these announcements we know are welcome news for our community even as we remain vigilant with our precautions and protocol to mitigate COVID-19.

On a final note, recently local health officials reported that COVID-19 cases have dropped to 2.9% of the population in Johnson County – the lowest level since June 2020. While this is certainly encouraging news, safety protocols including masks, social distancing and no large gatherings will remain in place at Santa Marta for the foreseeable future despite the ongoing lifting of some restrictions. Thank you for your help in supporting the safety and well-being of all of our residents, staff, and other visitors.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to our leadership team at updates@www.santamartaretirement.com with any questions. Our weekly updates will also be shared on our website and Facebook page.

Thank you and God bless,

Chet Surmaczewicz
