Friends and Family of Santa Marta,

With Thanksgiving just six days away, it’s inspiring to reflect on the perseverance that has paved our way through months of uncertainty up to this point. While the holiday season may present new challenges, our hope for better days ahead is as strong as it’s ever been thanks to the resilience of our residents and team members.

Testing was conducted for all health care residents this week and we are pleased to report there are still no positive cases of the virus among residents.

We also conducted more than 400 tests for healthcare staff as part of our ongoing twice weekly testing for team members. Only two came back positive – a CNA and private duty caregiver. Contact tracing determined no other team members were in close contact with the affected employees. Appropriate precautions have been taken for residents who may have been exposed and their families have been notified.

In total, there are 11 positive cases among staff, which includes the most recently identified cases. All affected individuals are safely recovering at home and we extend our prayers and well wishes to them for a speedy recovery.

Strict protocols and procedures remain in place communitywide in adherence to guidelines from health authorities. Following Thanksgiving, we will be temporarily closing the independent living dining room for two weeks out of an abundance of caution.

With the county positivity rate still above 10%, indoor visitations remain temporarily suspended communitywide as per CMS directives. We continue to recommend window visits, video calls and social media as the safest methods of staying connected with your loved ones. While independent living guests may still take advantage of outdoor visits and we continue to offer compassionate care visits with strict safety measures, communicating virtually is most prudent.

We empathize with the desire to get together with your loved ones for Thanksgiving celebrations, but strongly discourage holiday travel and gatherings in accordance to the latest recommendations from the CDC. Our collective sacrifice will help ensure the safety of others – especially our most vulnerable populations – during the current surge of COVID-19 nationwide.

Please feel free to contact me and the rest of the Santa Marta leadership team at with any questions. Next week’s website and Facebook update will be shared on Wednesday, November 25, ahead of the holiday.

Thank you and God bless,

Chet Surmaczewicz
