COVID-19 UPDATE – MAY 1, 2020

May 1, 2020

Friends and Family of Santa Marta,

The last few months have undoubtedly been some of the most complex that any of us in the Santa Marta family have experienced. It feels like on a weekly – if not daily – basis, we all have had to pivot and adapt to the challenges this pandemic has presented.

During this period, we’ve taken prudent, comprehensive precautions to protect residents and team members and reduce the risk of exposure to our community. Unfortunately, despite these efforts, we were recently notified a team member in assisted living has tested positive for COVID-19.

This individual last worked a shift at Santa Marta on April 21, when, shortly afterward, they reported a family member had received a positive diagnosis. Per our protocols, they self-isolated at home, and this afternoon we learned of their own positive test result.

When we first learned of this team member’s possible exposure, we conducted detailed contact tracing to identify a small group they had contact with. These residents were immediately quarantined in their homes, where we’ve continued to monitor them closely. Thankfully, no one from this group currently shows any signs or symptoms of the virus.

However, given we now have a confirmed positive diagnosis, and the reported frequency of asymptotic cases, this group will be tested in the coming days.

I know this is unwanted news and likely adds a level of apprehension during an already heightened time for all of us. Please know there is nothing – and I mean nothing – more important than the safety of those we support and employ.

We’re a system of independent but highly interconnected parts. It’s all of our responsibility to adhere to the strict protocols we have in place – social distance, personal protective equipment in common areas, and wash your hands frequently. I know this hasn’t been easy, but your cooperation, patience and resolve has been exemplary, and I’m incredibly proud to lead such a fine community.

Please continue to watch our website and Facebook page closely for any pertinent updates.

Stay safe, and God bless.
